Physical Education

At Christ the King Catholic school great importance is attached to the value  of sport in  our children's lives. Children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities, both within their curriculum lessons and through extra curricular activities.

CURRICULUM

We follow the Create Development programme - real PE. The programme develops the children's fundamental movement skills - agility, balance and co-ordination - through fun activities and challenges designed to allow the children to take control of their own learning. The six units over the year focus not only on the different physical activity skills but on the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills required in order for our to achieve in PE, sport and life. The Assessment for Learning tools enable more effective communication to the learners and shifts responsibility to them so that they take more ownership of their learning. The programme enables every child to take part and to improve at their own pace and ability, making it a personalised learning journey.

We also employ professional sports coaches - PH Sports - to teach one lesson a week to each year group. They also provide lunchtime clubs and after school clubs for our children, offering a range of traditional and less traditional sports and these clubs are always well attended by our children

Throughout Key Stage 2 all children have regular swimming lessons at the local pool. By the end of Key Stage 2 all children should be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters, using a range of strokes effectively and preform a safe self-rescue. In the summer term selected children enter the local swimming gala to compete against other schools.

SPORTS

As a school, many of our children take part in festivals competitions throughout the year against other schools in a range of various sports suited to both sporty and non-sporty children. These include tri-golf, football, tag rugby, boccia, athletics, mini-marathon, cross-country running and many more. At the end of the year we then take part in the School Games Competition held in Marlborough.
