ART

Art is an important part of the child's entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum at Christ the King. Art provides all children including the most vulnerable with the opportunities to develop and extend skills to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas through different mediums such as drawing, sculpture, collage and printing.

At Christ the King our high-quality art education, engages, inspires and challenges all our pupils and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art through being able to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and printing. As pupils progress, they will be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art processes. The particular focus on sketching will aid their handwriting development and all pupils will be able to reflect how art has shaped our local history, and is contributing to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Design and technology

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, our children learn to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems with a variety of contexts. They look at how existing objects function and how well they are suited to their purpose.  They deconstruct objects and learn how they are made. They improve and design their own objects and devices and evaluate them.

At Christ the King we know that for a curriculum to be relevant it needs to make children excited and enthusiastic. Setting challenges for building structures using every day materials gets children thinking and makes them determined to have a go. It teaches them resilience when things don't work out. Children begin to see art, computing, maths and science as part of a whole. They become more resourceful and creative.
