Welcome to Oak Class
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow."
Welcome to Oak Class. Here you will meet our youngest pupils in the school who are starting on their first steps in their educational journey with us. We love seeing our Reception pupils learn and grow alongside their Year 1 friends.
Our class teacher is Mr Page.
Our TAs are Mrs Farnfield, Mrs Baker and Mr Conway.

Our children are loving the continuous provision in our Reception classroom. Everyday we find a new way to love our learning! This term we have started by looking at our whole school English text 'Naughty Bus'. The bus has made a mess of our classroom by speeding through the toys. We pretended to be Police Officers and wrote our own crime reports. The children are now having a go at writing a story about their own naughty toys!
They have continued to develop their phonic knowledge and we have been impressed by the progress they have made in both their reading and writing!
In Mathematics, Reception have been counting on a number line. Finding 'one more' and 'one less'. They have also learnt to compare weight and capacity by exploring play based provision. It has been a joy to observe their use of mathematical language grow!
Year one have been partitioning numbers into 'tens' and 'ones'. They have learnt to solve addition and subtraction problems within 20. They have been encouraged to solve problems using their knowledge of number facts and by counting forwards and backwards on a number line.
Science has given us the opportunity to discuss animal classifications such as mammals, fish and their favorite reptiles! We have also planted peas and discussed the conditions they require to grow!
Geography this term was all about the changing seasons and the weather. Sadly, we mostly observed cloudy days but there was great excitement at the sight of a bit of snow!
Our RE learning has been focused on the Galilee to Jerusalem. We have explored the journey of the Wise Men and how they were excited to meet Jesus, the new born King! The children have made precious gifts for Jesus, crafted crowns and sequenced the events of the story.
We enjoyed the 'Red Umbrella' story and discussed how everyone is welcome to join God's family and that Jesus' love is for everyone, just like the umbrella!
We shared the 'Feeding of the 5000' story and talked about how we could learn from Jesus' kindness. As part of Pope Francis' Jubilee Year of Hope, the children were inspired to set up their own food bank and pretended to make soup for those who are hungry in our mud kitchen.
We hope to achieve the next step on our 'Pilgrims of Hope' journey by collecting donations for the local food bank. The children are making posters and invitations to appeal for donations of non perishable foods. So, if you have any spare food please bring it into school to help those who need it.
