MUSIC

At Christ the King Catholic School we want our musical learning to be accessible and open to every child, promoted through positive and appropriately challenging and engaging, experiences, all led by teachers and music specialist immersing themselves as part of a vibrant musical community.

We want to provide a broad range of practical musical opportunities that develop children's imagination, sensitivity, inventiveness and delight - essential elements in a broad and balanced curriculum. The making and composing of music through using voices, singing, using instruments and technologies should be central to every child's learning experiences from EYFS all the way through to Year 6 at Christ the King.

Medium Term plans

Medium term plans adapted from the Charanga platform are clear and comprehensive and in line with the National Curriculum to ensure that all children have opportunities to:

  • Preform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles/traditions.
  • Learn to sing, create and compose music, learn a musical instrument, and use technology.
  • Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.

Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning shows progression across all key stages building on the elements of music e.g. pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, texture, timbre, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Music Experiences

Links to music are made to develop the children's learning in appreciating and understanding a wide-range of live and recorded music. We embrace opportunities to participate in local theatre programmes and school clusters First Access music experiences.
