Welcome to Birch Class

Welcome to Birch Class (Year 3 & 4)!

Our teacher is Senorita Maria

Our TA is Mr. Presswell

In Birch Class we are learning about:

In Maths we have started learning about Fractions (unit fractions, non-unit fractions and how the compare and order them).

In English, we have based our learning in the book "Flooded" by Mariajo Ilustrajo, under the theme: Coming together and community. Children will be writing diary entries, dialogues, persuasive pleas and non-chronological reports.

In Geography, we are learning about Earthquakes: Where did the world’s most famous earthquakes take place?, What causes earthquakes?, Why are Earthquakes dangerous?, How can we protect against earthquakes? And what is a tsunami and how is it different from an earthquake? In addition, we have been reading “Earth, shattering events” alongside the Geography topic for our Instructional Reading sessions.

In RE, we are celebrating the beginning of the Lent and we will be learning about the Holy Week and how it is celebrated around the world, and we the sacrament of Eucharist links with the Last Supper.

In our Science lessons, we are learning about Rocks, comparing and grouping the different kinds of rocks based on their appearance and simple physical properties using scientific vocabulary. Focusing our scientific work in making systematic and careful observations.

Other Information

PE

The children will have PE lessons twice a week. However, we ask that the children have their kits in school all week. Please help us by labelling every piece of clothing your child brings to school.

Homework

Please continue to support your child with the homework set each week. Weekly homework includes reading, learning spellings, practising times tables on TTRS.

It is, of course, vital that you hear your child read as often as possible. We ask the children to get at least three signatures in their reading diaries a week.

Spelling test is on Friday, following the Literacy Shed Spelling program (children have their logins for the website, where they can practice their spelling playing games)

We would also really welcome any volunteers to read with the children. Please come and see us if you would be able to help us with this!
