Welcome to Oak Class
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow."
Welcome to Oak Class. Here you will meet our youngest pupils in the school who are starting on their first steps in their educational journey with us. We love seeing our Reception pupils learn and grow alongside their Year 1 friends.
Our class teacher is Mr Page.
Our TA is Mrs Farnfield
Our children are loving the continuous provision both inside and outside of the classroom. Everyday we find a new way to love our learning! The children are encouraged to be independent and follow their own ideas and interests.
We have been reading the text 'Dragon Post' a story of imagination and adventure, where a young boy writes letters to seek advice on how to look after a dragon. We will be using our phonic knowledge and emerging writing skills to write our own notes and letters.
The children will be developing their understanding of shape and position in Maths. The Year 1 children will be developing their understanding of left, right, forwards and backwards. They will learn to describe turns and will be introduced to ordinal numbers. They are then given provications to follow up this learning in their play. The Year 1 children now have log ins for TTRockstars an online times table app. They are being encouraged to practise the twos, fives and tens times tables.
This term in History, we will be learning about famous explorers and how their discoveries have changed the world.
Science will help us to explore habitats and microhabitats, allowing us to compare creatures and how they live.
In D.T. we plan to bake some healthy treats and talk about the importance of a balanced diet.
Our RE learning will give us the opportunity to explore other faiths, with a focus on Judiaism. We will talk about Christians from all around the world and compare them to ourselves. We will also discuss the features of the church and the importance of the cross in the Christian faith.
Thank you to everyone who has been reading at home with their child. This is the best way to support your child with their learning and we have observed accelerated progress in those who are reading at home. Please have a go at reading the real and alien words in your child's homework pack to help with their confidence for the upcoming phonics screening.
Here are a few photographs of us having fun with our learning.
The Curriculum overview for Summer Term 6 is shown below. If you would like any advise on how to further support your child at home please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Oak Class team.
